THE STUDIO and PROPSI have a studio set up in my home to do all the things I am doing. It brings an awful lot of black light to bear on the subject and shuts off all other light unless I provide it. I have found that most people like the results when I light a subject from the side giving a sort of half-moon effect to a face or figure and that is what I usually shoot for. Sometimes though, the lights go up or down to satisfy the wishes of the customer. The backdrop is generally white linen to achieve the blue white background that you see in most of my work. It is possible however to set up black or fluorescent colors other than white.
I have a couple of hats (actually over a hundred) that you are welcome to use to fit your mood or to jump-start your imagination.
There are picture hats, cowboy hats, Mexican hats, boaters, Panama hats, top hats, sailor hats, pith helmets, hats that you might cut holes in for your horse, an Amish hat, a Dutch girl hat, witches’ hats, Santa hats, leprechaun hats, cat or bunny ears, a Super Fly hat, Mandarin hats, a coolie hat, pirate hats, hats you would never wear while in your right mind and high fashion hats from many different decades. If you never tired of playing dress-up as a kid, this room is for you. I have fluorescent plush toys that might capture your imagination. I have a purple gorilla, a cow, two huge frogs, a smallish raccoon in cap and gown, a little green man (alien), a lion, a penguin, a four foot pink crayon, and multiple ducks, bunnies and bears.
Take a look at what some people have done with them.
I have flowers by the bowl and bucketful that I have painted with fluorescent colors to make sure that they are as bright as they are on a summer’s day.
You will find these in use with just about every pretty girl I have photographed regardless of age because flowers and pretty girls just naturally go together. You will see that I have many feathers and many different colored headbands so you can be any sort of forest or plains Indian you want. I have a double wide closet full of costumes as well. I have many different tops in black or white that I got because they had interesting necklines to frame my painting. I have graduation gowns and a wedding dress, a witches’ costume and many different colors of slips and grass skirts. I have angel wings and fairy wings and a devil’s horns and tail. I have shawls and drapes and things I am not sure what you would call them. I guess you will just have to look.
